Goethe House (Grosser Hirschgraben 23, Frankfurt) – this German city was the birthplace of the country’s best-regarded writer, Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). Given that his original house was bombed during World War II, it was since rebuilt (complete with his family’s original furniture, paintings and other personal effects). Admission: €7 (regular), €3 (reduced and student rate). Free for children 6 and under. Hours: 10 am – 6 pm (Monday – Saturday), 10 am – 5:30 pm (Sunday and holidays).
